[Auburn, Ala. and Reno, Nev.] Real Floors Commercial Inc., a member of Commercial USA based in Kennesaw, Ga., lent its expertise to not one, but two recent installations benefitting the college community, serving as the dealer for both new construction student housing projects: The University of Nevada and The Union at Auburn apartment complex. And, according to Tom Zivitz, Real Floors Commercial senior project manager, flooring for both projects was installed during the summer despite navigating lockdowns due to the pandemic. But, he said, the pandemic did not lead to any project delays or challenges. Spire Construction served as the general contractor on both projects.
The Union at Auburn gets upgraded
Located in Auburn, Ala., The Union includes luxury, resort-style student housing for those attending Auburn University. Spanning more than 21,000 square feet, the apartment community includes a community pool, study lounges, on-site office space, a game room and a large-scale gym. It includes an attached parking deck and is located in walking distance to campus for students.
The Union consists of multi-room apartments ranging from two- to six-bedroom spaces. Each apartment includes a living space, kitchen area, laundry and each bedroom is accompanied by its own private bathroom. Flooring for these apartments needed to withstand heavy traffic and day-to-day wear and tear, plus stand up to potential moisture, he said.
Carpet was installed in each bedroom, with luxury vinyl tile (LVT) installed throughout the rest of the apartments — both the carpet and LVT were used throughout the space including in leisure rooms and community areas. According to Zivitz, the installation consisted of Shaw Floors product and was distributed by Spartan Surfaces.
Canyon Flats facility provides Reno student housing
Located a mere five minutes away from the University of Nevada-Reno, Canyon Flats apartment complex allows students to take in all the sights of Downtown Reno, Nev. The facility incorporates The University’s spirit, with imagery of The University’s Wolf-Pack athletic mascot front and center in its design.
Rooms range from one-bedrooms to four-bedrooms complete with a kitchen area, living space and a private restroom accompanying each bedroom. Utilizing product from Shaw and Patcraft, carpet was installed on the bedroom floors while stylish hardwood-look LVT was installed in the surrounding room areas.
The complex also includes an art gallery, study lounges, fitness center and more.
